In a bit of surprising yet welcome news, BioWare has ported yet another one of its classic games over to iOS — the beloved 2005 martial arts RPG, Jade Empire.
The mobile iOS port of Jade Empire was handled by Aspyr Media, the same studio which did the mobile port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. For those who are unaware, Jade Empire contains many of the same RPG features as other BioWare games, such as branching dialogue choices, a good/evil morality system, and a sizeable host of NPC companions which the player can recruit, fight alongside with, and in some cases romance. Of course, Jade Empire is also very unique thanks to its setting in Mythological China and its action-oriented martial arts combat system.
The iOS version of Jade Empire is available via the iTunes app store for $9.99. In order to play it, you’ll need either an iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air, or any newer Apple device.
BioWare has been busy over the last couple of years with games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda. Here’s to hoping that this new iOS port of Jade Empire is BioWare’s subtle way of gauging interest in a sequel. Fans would no doubt be happy to revisit the world of Jade Empire in a current-gen sequel, but for now they’ll have to make do with carrying the original around on their mobile device.
