Skyrim Special Edition PC Requirements Revealed

Mid-range machines should be enough to run Skyrim Special Edition.

Bethesda has revealed the minimum recommended PC specifications for the upcoming Skyrim Special Edition re-release, and they actually aren’t too bad by today’s standards.

Since Skyrim Special Edition features touched-up graphics more suited for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, its PC version is also getting a noticeable bump in minimum recommended specs over the original 2011 release. The minimum PC specs for Skyrim Special Edition are as follows:

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit Version)
  • Intel i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945.
  • 8GB of RAM.
  • 12 GB free hard drive space
  • NVIDIA GTX470 1GB /AMD HD 7870 2GB

To compare, the original 2011 release of Skyrim only needed a minimum of 2GB of RAM, 6GB of hard drive space, and 512MB of video card RAM. As for Skyrim Special Edition’s recommended specs, they actually aren’t that much higher up than the minimum specs, which means that as long as you have at least a mid-range machine and a semi-new graphics card, you should be fine running the game at decent settings. The recommended specs are:

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit Version)
  • Intel i5-2400/AMD FX-8320.
  • 8GB of RAM.
  • 12 GB free hard drive space
  • NVIDIA GTX780 3GB /AMD R9 290 4GB

Skyrim Special Edition is set to be released on October 28th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will mark the first time the game is available on current-gen consoles. If you already own the original Skyrim on PC, you’ll get the Special Edition upgrade for free. Otherwise, it will cost $59.99.
